David Mamet’s Oleanna premiered 30 years ago and is still recognised as one of the most significant and fascinating plays of the late 20th Century - a modern masterpiece about power, language, and sexual harassment.
A male college Professor and his female student meet in his office to discuss her grades and in a terrifyingly short time become participants in a modern reprise of the Inquisition!
Innocuous remarks suddenly turn damning, banter gives way to heated assault and the relationship between teacher and student turns into an X-ray of the mechanisms of censorship, abuse and tragedy.
David Mealor, Flying Penguin Productions Artistic Director, says “Oleanna is a work that remains relevant to the present and speaks immediately and urgently to the zeitgeist of our times. We promise a stimulating night of theatre that will definitely provoke discussion and debate.”
Oleanna is realised by an all SA creative team including David Mealor as director, Kathryn Sproul as set and costume designer, Chris Petridis as AV and lighting designer and Quentin Grant as composer/sound designer. The production stars Georgia Laity and Renato Musolino.
