MJC Presents: Tuckerbox

Tucker Box is a new collaboration between Sydney-based trumpeter/composer Tom Avgenicos and Melbourne-based trombonist/composer Josh Bennier (both semi-finalists in the 2017 National Jazz Brass Awards at the Wangaratta Festival, with Avgenicos placing Third in the Finals).

Since then, both have displayed exponential growth as artists, with Avgenicos performing with Mike Nock and Barney McAll, while Bennier is a finalist as Young Artist of the Year in the Bell Awards (and has released a debut album, ‘To The Bone’, plus a co-led album with Natasha Weatherill, on his own label, Static Records).

This project will explore the earthy-textures available in a chord-less ensemble within the realm of contemporary jazz and improvisation, interacting with Sydney bassist Jacques Emery and drummer Luke Andresen.
