Meat Market

From the creator of Her… the Photographic Series, Midsumma Festival 2019.

She sings. One room. One take. One fierce tone.

She breathes. One room. One take. One exhale.

She sighs. One room. One take. One moment.

3 rooms, 3 completely different kunst experiences. An art installation like floating on a block of ice, through visual stimuli, which makes you think, and leaves you with something! An exhibition, which encapsulates 3 ‘shows’ with one linkage…a walk-through of theatrical states of being. 3 rooms that as you enter embed an emotional experience though: visuals, sound, stillness, and/or scale.

The opening space meets you with photographic sculptures: a grunge bands chords ripped apart and put back together. A guitar in a mosh ball pit, with a rubber duck moment, 1960’s inspired graphics hang off the wall, and you feel like you are in Woodstock, a soundtrack accompanies you and you gaze up at an arena projection of semi animation and distorted spiral optical videos. There is also a sense of finding who you are…through the helter skelter of this thing we call life.

The rooms after this one are a ride…so we are gonna keep that a secret. The rock soundtrack which accompanies this show was created by the artist, influenced by her folks 1960’s ad 1970’s record collection, her own fascination with early rave culture, and queer music breaking on through to the other side.

Get ready to do what you want to: shake/rattle/roll/grind/bump/exhale.

This is Martha Ackroyd Curtis’ second exhibition at Meat Market, and a completely different ride awaits you. She again is using the mass of different mediums to bring you something that is a year in the making.

This show comes of the back of her upcoming/recent appearances/shows in Leipzig Germany, Sydney Fringe Festival, Midsumma Festival, and collaboration with a street dance artist, along with The Stroll Collective.
