This pop-up installation is a collaboration between musicologist and sound artist Miriam Akkermann, programmer and composer Andre Bartetzki, psychology professor Phillipp Kanske, and Eva Alisic from the Centre for Health Equity at The University of Melbourne.
The installation features audio snippets taken from the Ear for Recovery project—a study of trauma recovery among children who have experienced a serious injury. The installation invites visitors to reflect on what life is like for families affected by trauma. It confronts listeners with tensions between the mundane and the deep, the emotional and the practical, and the worlds of adults and children. It’s an eye-opening look into ordinary routines and beauty of daily life.
Opening event:
The opening event will take place on December 12, from 5 to 7pm, and includes brief talks by the developers, Miegunyah Distinguished Visiting Fellow Matthias Mehl, and Director of The Dax Centre Charmaine Smith.
