As part of the continuum: Independent animation from Japan and Australia exhibition, director and co-writer of Cooked, Jake Duczynski will discuss the making of the five-part political comedy series and how meaningful consultation and collaboration with community was paramount to writing and designing the series. The premise of Cooked sees the ghost of Captain Cook awaken in 2020 and along with Manhra, an Indigenous woman’s spirit trapped inside the body of a goat, together they search for a cure to a mysterious 250-year-old spell. Duczynski takes the audience through his own process of honouring First Nations stories with meaningful research and collaborative, community consultation and how this infused an extra layer of meaning that brought First Nations perspectives across the whole scope of the Cooked production.
This in-person talk event will also be livestreamed on the JPF Sydney Facebook page.
