To mark fifty years since The Beach Boys started cruisin' for honeys, Capitol/EMI are releasing two greatest hits collections, as well as rolling out deluxe editions of their first twelve records.
The 50th Anniversary Greatest Hits collection contains nineteen of the band's most-loved songs, plus Kokomo. More exciting is the Greatest Hits: 50 Big Ones which provides a great cross section of the band's catalogue, featuring deep cuts such as The Little Girl I Once Knew, This Whole World, California Saga and the undeniable Sail On Sailor. There's also exhaustive liner notes from noted Rolling Stone scribe David Wild (a good thing) and seven postcards (a thing).
::FIVE UNINTENTIONALLY HILARIOUS BEACH BOYS SONGS
The album reissues each include mono and stereo versions (mono mixes of Sunflower and Surf's Up aren't included as they would be redundant) remastered by longtime Beach Boys audiophile Mark Linett.
The albums receiving the treatment are Surfin’ U.S.A, Surfer Girl, Little Deuce Coupe (a concept album about cars!), Shut Down, Volume 2, All Summer Long, The Beach Boys Today! (great record), Summer Days And Summer Nights!!, Beach Boys Party!, Pet Sounds (magic), Smiley Smile (stoned magic), Sunflower, and Surf’s Up. No Holland though, sadly, even though it is a masterpiece.
These releases mark the first-ever stereo mix of Good Vibrations, which Brian sadly will not be able to enjoy. You'll be able to get your hands on them (digitally or in actuality) from September 21.
